My first formal teaching experiences where in foreign language classes. After one year instructing for the Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Iowa, I spent a year at Meiji University in Tokyo. Shortly after I returned, I began studying dance full time.
During my time in Tokyo, I was fortunate to work as the research assistant of Professor Yukiko Abe Hatasa, a leader in the field of Japanese language pedagogy and co-author of the Nakama textbook series.
In this project, a camera person followed me at Meiji University, filming for the revised edition of the second-year Japanese textbook, Nakama 2. The voice you hear is mine, recorded in a studio weeks later.
